Originally from Ottawa, Maureen Ross Neilson moved to Toronto to continue her studies in the performing arts at Ryerson. Since then she has appeared on stage in numerous memorable roles, including many of the Bard's famous ladies.
She re-joined a once Ottawa-based comedy troupe, with a new name for it's Toronto debut, The Comic Book Heroes, where they became a fringe success with a large fan base. She dabbled in puppeteering for a while, and had the great honour of working with Ernie Coombs on the popular CBC children's television show, Mr. Dressup. She also studied clown with the best, enjoying the childish freedom of the genre, and was asked by the infamous San Francisco-based clown, Kathleen Cornish to join her on tour with Cirque du Soleil.
More recently, Maureen has moved on to television and film, starring as Loraine Newman alongside Jamie Gertz in It's Always Something: The Gilda Radner Story on ABC. She played a young Sophia Loren in the movie Between Strangers, and appears as Dr. Sharon DeLauro on the hit series, DOC. Currently, Maureen can be seen as the host of the popular reality home renovation series Design U airing on HGTV and Discovery Home.
Maureen Ross Neilson has always been and continues to be an outstanding actor. She is ever ready to leap at a new challenge, and bring to it a quality that is uniquely her own. A palpable sense of humour, and a true sensitivity to her work, Maureen has honed her craft to an indescribable art.
