Backed by a full decade of finely honed chemistry, The Imponderables have appeared at the Just For Laughs Festival (Chicago, Toronto, and Montreal Gala Series on CBC), two Canadian Comedy Award Specials on the Comedy Network, and in the CBC special: Sketch with Kevin McDonald of the Kids in the Hall. They've played to sold-out houses in Toronto, New York, L.A., and Chicago, getting the chance to perform with some of their favourites along the way (David Cross & Bob Odenkirk of Mr. Show). They made comedy news by becoming the first independent comedy troupe to headline the coveted Second City mainstage in their 30-year history, before embarking on a five-year residency at the Sketch Comedy Lounge at the Rivoli.
Their viral videos on the front pages of You Tube, College Humor, Funny or Die, Break, CW Network, and G4 TV's Attack of the Show have been featured in Entertainment Weekly Magazine and TV Guide. Furthermore, the Imponderables were also the featured live guests on Much Music's hugely popular show Much on Demand, and also made Glenn Sumi’s Top Ten Comedy Shows in Now Magazine’s highly anticipated end of year issue.
In 2008 The Imponderables raised money for Child's Play and SickKids Children's Hospital by hosting an on-line telethon on ustream.tv. For as long as money was being raised, they confined themselves to a small couch and stayed awake entertaining viewers with sketches, guests and special give-a-ways. The Couch-A-Thon lasted for 29 straight hours (and over $10,000 dollars) garnering press in the L.A. Times.
In July 2010, the Imponderables celebrated their 500th live show together (something only the legendary Frantics comedy troupe have done before them) at the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival, where they were selected as part of Variety Magazine's Top Ten Comics to Watch.
The multiple Canadian Comedy Award Winners (Best Troupe, Best Web Clip) just finished shooting their own pilot for MTV in the United States.
However, this is also a story of a group of friends who have stuck together in the pursuit of a common goal for more than decade now (somehow managing not to kill each other in the process). They’ve performed everywhere from abandoned storefronts, bankrupt theaters, creepy church basements, and a fire torn warehouse, to the more comfortable Rivoli in Toronto, where the Kids in the Hall got their big break, and the luxurious St. Denis Theatre in Montreal as part of the Montreal Just for Laughs Gala series, where they got to meet their hometown Hamilton hero: SNL and SCTV favourite, Martin Short. |
